I Actually Fell in Love with an Image

Before I religiously followed the word of GQ, Celebrity Menswear Stylist Ashley Weston, and anything and everything to do with Supreme, I was swimming in film. Film (partially) got me into fashion. Beginning with the film that got me into films, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Once Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker in a peacoat graced my eyes, I was hooked. (Before experiencing the best of Sony's Spider-Man, I sheltered myself from the cinema.) Peter Parker's style awoke something in me that I would not nurture until much later, but it started something none the less; the film sparked an interest in cinema.
Interestingly enough my immediate reaction was not to binge the American film canon but to consume as many how-to make film tutorials and video essays on YouTube I possibly could. Then in high school, I started actually watching the films that other people dissected for me. From then I started going to see new releases, then going to festivals, then keeping up with awards season, then getting waitlisted for film school and subsequently not getting into film school. Somewhere around then (before getting waitlisted for film school), I watched La La Land and Ryan Gosling as Sebastian and all his camp collar shirts poured gas on the spark that Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker in a peacoat started a few years prior.
Now, I was falling in love with fashion.
Like with film, I started with watching as many how-to dress videos as I could. Around this time I also discovered Supreme, which only continued to fuel my fire for fashion. Then after Supreme, I found streetwear, then through streetwear, I found Off-White, then through Off-White, I discovered High Fashion, then High Fashion introduced me to celebrity style and red carpets for films: full circle. I was viewing films with an eye out for fashion and I was looking at fashion with an eye out for cinema.
I might have missed a few steps but that's roughly how I got here: writing a blog post for my brand. Televised was my way of merging my two loves into one. There's a lot of fashion here, but not enough film. The mood board aspect of the Instagram account should help to balance that out as a healthy percentage of those images are from films or are of people involved in filmmaking. But, I can do more.
If you follow my personal Instagram, you might be familiar with my movie scores and Netflix recommendations. I'm bringing my movie recommendations to Televised. Every Friday, I will post a new film recommendation. Unlike my personal recommendations, the films I recommend here will be films that have an inspiring sense of style and fashion.
Hopefully, these films will inspire you in some way as I have been. See you Friday.
Thanks.
